Tooth Extractions

A dental extraction is a procedure performed to remove a tooth from your mouth. At Westside Family Dental, we understand that tooth extractions can be a source of anxiety for many patients. However, our Westside dental clinic is dedicated to ensuring your comfort and providing a safe, efficient experience.

Tooth extractions are most commonly required when a tooth is damaged beyond practical repair. Here are the most common reasons patients may need a tooth extraction:

• Severe Tooth Decay or Infection: When a tooth is severely decayed or infected, it may be too damaged to repair effectively. In such cases, extraction is often the most viable option to prevent further complications.

• Advanced Gum Disease: If gum disease progresses to an advanced stage, it can threaten the supporting tissues and bone structures of your mouth. Extracting a compromised tooth can help preserve the overall health of your mouth.

• Impacted Teeth: Occasionally, a tooth may be blocking other teeth from emerging properly. In these instances, extraction may be necessary to allow proper alignment and development of the dental arch.

• Orthodontic Treatment: During orthodontic work, extracting specific teeth may be required to create sufficient space for other teeth to move into their proper positions.

• Wisdom Teeth Removal: Wisdom teeth are often extracted at our Westside dental clinic, either before they fully emerge or shortly thereafter, to prevent potential issues such as crowding or infection.

What to Expect During Your Extraction

Your comfort is our priority at our Westside dental clinic. Before the procedure, our dentist will administer a local anesthetic to numb the area and reduce discomfort. You may feel pressure during the extraction, but you should not experience any pain. Typically, the entire process can be completed within a matter of minutes.

After the extraction, it is normal to experience a small amount of bleeding. A piece of gauze will be placed over the extraction site to help control any bleeding. While it’s common to have some minor bleeding for the first 24 hours, this should gradually taper off. It's essential to follow our dentist's post-procedure instructions, including how often to change the gauze and other care tips to promote healing.

At Westside Family Dental, we are committed to providing compassionate care and guidance throughout your tooth extraction experience.
